Amazing Career Moments Happen Here

Transforming the insurance industry is ambitious, we know. That’s why at Applied Systems India Pvt Ltd., an Applied Systems company, we’re building a team that shows up every day ready to learn, willing to try new things, and driven to deliver innovative software and services that make us indispensable to our customers – all within a culture built on values that make us indispensable to each other too. With 40+ years of experience in the Insurtech game, we’re not just redefining what’s achievable; we’re creating a place where amazing career moments are made possible.

Position Overview

We’re searching for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Riskhandler Engineering team in Bengaluru, India (open to relocation).

The Riskhandler platform is a business-critical commercial lines insurance rating and quoting system, serving insurance brokers across the UK and Ireland. Our team owns the product end-to-end – from backend rating engine to REST API layer to data – and we’re in the middle of an exciting technical evolution: modernising from a .NET Framework 4.8 foundation toward an API-first, cloud-ready architecture powered by .NET Core and React.

To keep us headed in the right direction, we’re looking for people who approach every problem with curiosity and rigour, who take genuine ownership of their work, and who see complexity as an opportunity rather than an obstacle. If you love digging into systems, finding elegant solutions, and helping the people around you grow, this role was written with you in mind.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain features on the Riskhandler insurance rating and quoting platform (C# / VB.NET / ASP.NET Web API)
  • Contribute to our API-first modernisation roadmap – including REST API layer enhancements, CQRS pattern adoption, and early-stage migration planning toward .NET Core and React
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code; actively participate in code reviews and hold the team to high quality standards
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, and UK-based stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions
  • Diagnose and resolve complex defects across the full stack – backend services, data layer, and front-end
  • Contribute to and help evolve our Playwright (TypeScript) test automation framework
  • Drive improvements in engineering practices, coding standards, and design patterns across the team
  • Mentor junior developers, lead technical discussions, and play an active role in architecture decisions
  • Identify and champion opportunities for technical improvement in an open, collaborative way

e’re Excited to Learn More About You

Education: BE / B.Tech / M.Tech / MCA / MSc (Computer Science or related discipline)

Experience: 8–9+ years of hands-on software engineering experience

What We Need

  • Strong C# and .NET (Framework or Core) – this is our non-negotiable. Deep OOP fundamentals are essential: inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, SOLID principles
  • REST API development – experience designing and building ASP.NET Web APIs with a solid grasp of HTTP, REST conventions, and integration patterns
  • SQL Server – confident writing complex queries and stored procedures; comfortable understanding and evolving data models
  • JavaScript / TypeScript – solid working knowledge of the modern JS/TS ecosystem; ability to contribute to front-end work and understand client-side architecture
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset – you think in systems, spot edge cases, evaluate trade-offs, and propose solutions that are both pragmatic and well-reasoned
  • End-to-end ownership – you take a feature from design discussion through to production, monitor it, iterate on it, and feel responsible for its quality
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills – you can articulate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What Makes a Good Candidate Great

  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks – React preferred; Angular also valued. We’re on the path to React and want someone who can grow with us
  • Experience or exposure to .NET Core / .NET 6+ – even if from a side project or POC
  • Knowledge of VB.NET – part of our existing codebase is in VB.NET; not a requirement, but comfortable reading it is a plus
  • Understanding of architectural patterns: CQRS, MediatR, Dependency Injection, layered architecture – patterns we are actively adopting
  • Experience working in a legacy modernisation context – you know how to balance keeping the lights on while incrementally improving the architecture
  • Genuine passion for learning and adaptability – technology will evolve and so will our stack; we want someone who leans into that

You May Also Have Experience With

  • GitLab CI/CD, Octopus Deploy, or similar pipeline tooling
  • Playwright / TypeScript for UI test automation
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) – nice to have; we are not yet in the cloud but it is on the horizon
  • Insurance or financial services domain knowledge – understanding of commercial lines insurance products and workflows is a bonus
