Data Migration Manager
Amazing Career Moments Happen Here
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Data Migration Manager to lead a team within our Data Services organization. This role is responsible for the people leadership, delivery oversight, and client-facing communication needed to ensure that customer data migrations from competitor and legacy systems into Applied Systems SaaS products are executed seamlessly, on time, and with a high standard of quality and customer satisfaction.
Job Summary
As a people leader within Data Services, the Manager owns the team's delivery outcomes end to end — from understanding what each customer expects and why, to translating those expectations into the technical work the team needs to complete, to confirming the outcome meets the customer's requirements. The Manager oversees a team of Data Migration Engineers, coaching and guiding their day-to-day work, while personally attending customer meetings during US hours to represent Data Services, answer questions in real time, and build trust with the customer directly.
This role works closely with a US-based Relationship Manager who coordinates with the India-based teams across multiple workstreams. The Data Migration Manager partners with this Relationship Manager on project status, customer sentiment, risk escalation, and resourcing, ensuring the two roles present a unified, well-coordinated front to the customer.
This role operates within a global, Follow the Sun delivery model. To attend customer meetings in US time and to keep migrations moving seamlessly across regions and time zones, this position requires willingness to work a night shift aligned with US business hours.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Migration Engineers, setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and supporting career growth
- Own team performance management, including workload planning, capacity and resourcing decisions, and day-to-day people management (attendance, conduct, goal-setting, and performance reviews)
- Attend customer meetings during US business hours, serving as the primary point of contact for customers — especially US-based clients — providing regular status updates and managing expectations
- Understand each assigned migration project end to end: what the customer expects, why they expect it, and what the team needs to do — technically and operationally — to meet those expectations, translating customer requirements into clear direction for the team
- Work closely with the US-based Relationship Manager who liaises with the India teams across multiple engagements, aligning on project status, customer sentiment, risks, and priorities so both roles speak with one voice to the customer
- Oversee assigned migration projects at a program level, tracking timelines, dependencies, and deliverables, and stepping in to unblock the team or escalate issues before they impact the customer
- Act as an escalation point for complex, sensitive, or at-risk migrations, working cross-functionally with Onboarding and Success Services, Development, Operations, Solution Services, and Support to resolve issues quickly
- Support and reinforce the global Follow the Sun delivery model, ensuring smooth handoffs, clear documentation, and continuity of work across regions and time zones, including during night shift hours
- Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes clearly to both technical team members and non-technical stakeholders, including customer contacts, the Relationship Manager, and internal leadership
- Champion standardized, repeatable processes and best practices across the team; identify opportunities to improve migration quality, speed, and the overall customer experience
- Partner with leadership on staffing, training, and tooling needs as Data Services processes and platforms (including cloud-based platforms such as BigQuery and emerging automation/AI-assisted tooling) continue to evolve
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen Data Services delivery capabilities, tooling, and customer outcomes
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Proven experience managing, leading, or mentoring a technical team, ideally within a services, IT, or software delivery environment
- Excellent communication skills — written and verbal — with demonstrated ability to build rapport and manage expectations with clients, especially customers based in the United States
- Ability to understand a project end to end — grasping customer requirements and business context well enough to translate them into clear technical and operational direction for the team
- Working knowledge of data migration, ETL, or database concepts (for example, data extraction, transformation, data quality, and SQL fundamentals) sufficient to guide a technical team and speak credibly with customers
- Comfort working closely with a Relationship Manager or similar counterpart, coordinating on status, risk, and customer sentiment so the customer experiences one consistent point of view
- Willingness and ability to work a night shift schedule, including attending customer meetings in US time, to support the global Follow the Sun delivery model
- Strong people management skills, including experience with performance feedback, coaching, conflict resolution, and team motivation
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities while remaining calm, organized, and customer-focused under pressure
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability, balanced with the ability to align the team to shared standards, processes, and delivery goals
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline
Additionally, You May Have
- Prior experience in a Data Migration, ETL, or data services delivery role before moving into management
- Experience managing distributed or global teams across multiple time zones
- Experience working alongside a client-facing Relationship Manager, Account Manager, or similar role on shared accounts
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (such as Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery) or automation and AI-assisted tooling used in migration delivery
- Experience using Jira, SharePoint, or similar tools to track team workload, manage projects, and report on delivery status
- Experience presenting to or managing relationships with enterprise or SaaS customers
